I agree that gender politics isn't the most pressing issue in America, but Democrats aren't the ones who keep bringing it up. Republican strategists have created an effective straw man by making crazy, untrue claims about trans kids in sports and gender-affirming care for kids (like claiming that kids are getting gender reassignment surgery, which is 1oo% false). Democrats aren't the ones who keep bringing up trans rights and gender fluidity; they're respnding to the Republicans who keep using it as an effective (if false) wedge issue.
